“Applause, Applause, Applause! Hand clapping should echo within your ears … to the delight of the crowd you were here … You were wonderful and we were very pleased to have you within our Center. To the cast, crew and those who made it possible, you need to celebrate this work. It is great. BE STILL AND KNOW is one of the most moving pieces I have been privileged to witness recently. It drew out the emotions, a bit quiet in the crowd, but as I scanned for reactions, they were there. Amy was impeccable. More roses to her. Eric keep up this great work. I plan to pass it on and encourage you to take this on the road more and more. Hometowns everywhere can relate and celebrate with you. Good luck.”
-Rich Brooks, Executive Director, St. Peter’s Arts Center
“Billed as stories collected from the rural community of Alton, Missouri, BE STILL AND KNOW is so much more, as the play creates tension by combining the rural stories of the past with the modern angst of a public image consultant wrangling with her place in the world. The modern story is told directly to the audience, while the memories unfold as scenes viewed. The parallel stories engage the audience in a way a presentation of country vignettes would not … Amy Brixey turns in a bravura performance in challenging dual roles. The audience shares in both women’s losses and triumphs. Liz’s character grows as scenes from throughout her life are presented, while Jean’s actions are all confined to one important evening. Brixey’s ability not only to slip between personalities, but time periods, emotional stages, and physical locations is excellent. Obviously, a one-actor show rises and falls on the abilities of the actor, and here Brixey’s emotional range and technical work elevate the material … A wonderful start to an exciting new theatre experience in Soulard.”
