“You want guts? Try staging Marlowe’s tragedy in the Neoclassical-style lobby of the Midtown Arts Center using votive candles and the occasional follow-spot. Candles on the floor, by the way. And not a lot of them, either, just enough to provide flickering shadows on the young faces of these eager actors. In terms of creativity on a budget, this young company deserves kudos and good fortune”

“Echo Theatre Company has put local theater-goers in its debt by providing a rare opportunity to see DR. FAUSTUS … the Echo cast displays a good feel for both the poetry and the comedy of Marlowe’s play … Ben Grimes is excellent as Mephistophilis.”
-St. Louis Post-Dispatch

“Echo’s production of FAUSTUS is stirring and passionate. The cast pours themselves into this production. They fill the tale with passion - and more than a little sensuality - all very appropriate to Faustus’ pursuits and drives … This is an excellent showcase for what dedicated theatrical performers can do when they let their imaginations and passions guide their production. As I told the staff that night, I haven’t enjoyed a production so much in years. And I can give it no higher praise than to say, ‘I plan to go back before it closes - and bring friends - so that I can enjoy the rush of taking part in theatre one more time with this highly motivated cast.’ Make a deal with the devil if you have to, but DO go see Echo Theatre Company’s DR. FAUSTUS.”
-KDXH Radio

In Echo Theatre Company’s devilishly spirited production of this Elizabethan melodrama, director Eric Little has combined the 1604 and 1616 versions and cast a woman as ‘Joan’ Faustus. The result is enjoyable and fast-moving, well worth a look … Costumed in a combination of modern dress, with strobe and occasional groovy drum track, this FAUSTUS shows imagination on a budget - and enough demons to bring in the crowds should Echo consider reprising the production for the lucrative Halloween audience.”
